Colored Commentary is a new podcast hosted by Markus Lloyd and Antwuan Malone featuring colorful, gospel-centered conversation on race and culture. Powered by the biblical reconciliation organization Threaded, Colored Commentary provides a space to peek into multi-ethnic, passionate, authentic and potentially challenging conversations around race in Christianity and culture.

The podcast will respond to the latest Christian news, the ebbs and flows of American culture, and the specific events surrounding racialized narratives. The idea is provide a space for Christians and non-Christians alike to hear a balanced, kingdom approach to racial reconciliation and diversity and the seize the opportunity to bridge divides that are created by allowing the gospel to influence how we respond to and think through the latest cultural events.

Markus Lloyd

Markus Lloyd serves as the executive director of a Biblical racial reconciliation ministry called Threaded and as the Director of External Focus for Woodcreek Church in Richardson, Texas. In the local community he is known as a community catalyst for Church unity and reconciliation. In his spare time, he is a speaker, writer, singer, actor and director. Markus can be found in commercials, on stages, and currently he is the national emcee for Southwest Airlines. You can hear his voice in popular commercials, video games and anime cartoons like Dragon-ball Super, Borderlands 2, The Walking Dead and Smite. Markus is a graduate of TCU and is currently working on a Masters in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Antwuan Malone

Antwuan serves as the Executive Director of a diverse, cross-church young adult ministry in Collin County called ELEVATE Young Adult Ministry. In ELEVATE, Antwuan pastors a cross-church young adult discipleship community that exists as a complement to local churches. Antwuan is passionate about helping young adults (18-30) find their role and purpose in the local church movement. He is a consultant, writer and speaker and on subjects pertaining to racial diversity, young adult ministry and discipleship, and general bible teaching.

Antwuan loves the church first and foremost, and is passionate about eliminating the roadblocks preventing its proper witness. Such work includes bridging gaps between generations and groups divided by ethnic and racial lines. He lives in McKinney, Texas with is wife Lisa and four children.

We start the race conversation with finding our identity in Christ, our enemy in Satan, and our efforts for God’s kingdom. Our primary audience are those who follow Jesus Christ and his model of reconciliation shown to us by his dying on the cross. Jesus provides us the best pathway for racial reconciliation, and those inside the body of Christ need to exemplify that reconciliation with God and with others… even the “others” whose skin is a different color than ours!

As “ambassadors of reconciliation” we are meant to engage the culture around us. This means acknowledging the societies we live in are full of evil. Culture provides us many opportunities to bring the gospel into varying forms of division. Also, the culture around us (music, movies, politics, business, etc…) informs the challenges we face to living reconciled. We’ll be discussing it as we learn in public with you all.

Full racial reconciliation is the great challenge of our time. We believe God desires his people to reflect reconciliation of all relationships, including those suffering in a racialized society. The Bible shows us a picture of people from all ethnic groups and tongues worshiping him together in one voice. As citizens of the heavenly society, we must do what we can tear down the walls of racism and exemplify a love and value for those different than us that reflects Kingdom ethics and compassion.
